Carers NSW is the peak body in NSW for carers of all ages and circumstances. It is a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers and improving their quality of life through support, referrals, capacity building and training.
As the Carer Gateway Service Provider in Region 4 of NSW (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast), Carers NSW is looking for a Young Carer Outreach Worker to join the Coffs Harbour team.
This is a part-time contract working 3 days per week, until August 2022.
This position is responsible for working proactively with young carers and services to support young carers to access the Carer Gateway. This role will be required to connect with services such as schools, youth agencies, training organisations and other service providers to create awareness of young carers and the services of the Carer Gateway. This role will be required to travel across the North Coast region, with some overnight stays.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:
- Tertiary qualification in social work or other relevant discipline
- Demonstrated experience in working with young people
- Knowledge of the community care, health and disability service systems and other programs relevant to young carers
- Demonstrated experience in community outreach work
- Understanding of intake, assessment and referral processes provided as part of a telephone information, support and planning process
- Strong understanding of mandatory reporting and privacy requirements, and
- Understanding of and commitment to carer issues and needs
