Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation (BNMAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
Full time position located at Casino to provide services to Casino and Grafton.

The Targeted Early Intervention Program is aimed at children, young people, families and communities within NSW who are experiencing or at risk of vulnerability.
The vision for the program is that:
• Families , children and young people’s needs are met early to prevent the escalation of vulnerability;
• Families are able to access support early in the lives of their children and young people
• Risk factors that lead to child abuse, neglect, and domestic and family violence are addressed early;
• Aboriginal children, young adults, families and communities have access to timely, effective, accessible and culturally safe support and service.
Critical Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
• Family capacity building: family support activities during case management
• Identify and use culturally appropriate methods, services and service providers
• Facilitate and encourage use of community based and interagency services by families
• Identify service and activity needs of families and, where necessary, work with other agencies to develop culturally appropriate services and activities to meet these needs.
• Maintain statistical records and data bases to support regular reports addressing achievements against KPIs and expected outcomes
• Advocating, problem solving and acting as an intermediary for Aboriginal children, young people and families so they can get the right support
• Facilitate social participation in activities that encourage connectedness for Aboriginal children and parents, that increase their social inclusion and participation, i.e. relationship and life skills programs delivered in a group setting or one on one
• Information, advice and referral: provide advice, information and guidance to individuals and families, helping them to access services and determine the way their support is provided
• Intake and assessment: Provide assessment and case planning in a case management setting, to gauge the strengths and needs of the child, young person and family, including risks.
• Family capacity building: family support activities during case management
• Parenting programs: providing parents with effective activities, information and coaching to assist them build positive parenting skills
Please note: It is mandatory for the TEI Caseworker to attend and complete trauma informed practice training (inclusive of Aboriginal intergenerational trauma) within 12 months of employment and thereafter annually.
Critical Selection Criteria
Essential
• Aboriginality is a genuine occupational requirement of this position, exemptions claimed under Section 14D of the Anti Discrimination Act. NSW 1977.
• Current NSW Working with Children Check and National Police Check
• At least 12 months experience in casework of and a proven ability to build effective working relationships with mainstream and Aboriginal services.
• Sound understanding of child protection and how it relates to Aboriginal child and family welfare
• Ability to deal effectively with clients in crisis or “difficult” situations
• Demonstrated computer literacy including proficient keyboard and data entry skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Understanding of privacy legislation and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and to demonstrate initiative.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Current driver’s licence
Desirable
• Any formal qualifications within a social work framework and a minimum of two years’ experience working within a welfare framework.
