Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation providing primary health care services to Aboriginal people throughout the Clarence and Richmond Valleys through its network of clinics in Grafton, Casino, Maclean and Tweed Heads South.
The role
To work as a member of a team providing psychology and therapeutic support services in either Casino to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children under 12 years of age with mild to moderate behavioural and mental health issues and their families/carers (clients) by using profession-specific intervention strategies that produce outcomes in support of the clients’ participation in their learning, social, home and community environments.
Ensure whole of family support is provided to eligible children, their families and carers through access to social worker services where indicated.
Provide family focused coordinated therapeutic support designed to build the capacity of the family/carers to address issues impacting the child’s mental health and emotional well-being.
To support and allow the child and family psychologists to focus on clinical services by providing counselling services to clients, directing and assisting them to access appropriate external services
To support the work that the child psychologist does, especially within the family unit.
The Social Worker will assist with the administrative/logistical side of the program, as well as contributing to the review and support of the families by addressing factors such as housing, drug and alcohol and other health, social and family related issues that maybe impacting on the child.
The successful applicants must have:
• Tertiary qualifications in social work/social welfare and current registration with AHPRA.
• Minimum 2 years’ post graduate experience.
• Previous extensive social work experience in the mental health, social and emotional wellbeing fields.
• Ability to conduct social work assessments coordinate treatment planning and have a demonstrated experience providing crisis intervention.
• Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.
• Ability to develop and foster collaborative working arrangements with relevant services and organisation.
• A current and valid NSW Working with Children’s Check and Criminal Check.
• Current New South Wales driver’s license and the willingness to travel to provide outreach services within the Richmond region.
• Computer proficiency and the ability to use basic computer programs, information management systems.
