The Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT) originated in the UK. It tested whether a low calorie-based weight management program delivered in primary care could achieve long term remission of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes UK, the University of Glasgow and Newcastle University have since developed the DiRECT principles. These principles set out the core elements of health intervention that should be adopted in order to have the best chance of replicating the outcomes from DiRECT.
North Coast PHN has been invited to participate with four other NSW PHNs in partnering with Diabetes NSW to deliver the DiRECT-Aus Replication Project. The objectives of the study are:
Five participating general practices from the Ballina/Byron, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour and Richmond Valley regions will be provided with resources and training to support GPs and the practice to deliver DiRECT-Aus to eligible participants
