NSW Health has issued an update on widening the testing criteria.
There is now laboratory capacity to double the volume of testing for COVID-19 in NSW. This will increase from 4,000 tests to 8,000 tests per day over the next week.
All people with symptoms of an acute respiratory illness should get tested.
This is an effort to identify as many cases of COVID-19 in the community as quickly as possible. NSW Health will continue to identify local hot spots for testing.
NSW Health urges all health care workers, aged care workers or workers in other high risk or residential care settings with symptoms to get tested immediately. Noting occupational status will ensure tests are prioritised.
People with symptoms who live in a residential care setting, or have contact with health care or school settings, should also get tested. Make their contact with a high risk setting known to their doctor and testing provider.
