HealthPathways has recently published the Return to Work pathway.
While there are times when returning to work following an injury is not the best course of action, time off work – particularly when the absence is long term – can have significant side effects, including increased rates of overall mortality, poorer physical health and poorer mental health and psychological wellbeing.
The Return to Work pathway explains the importance of returning to work, even at reduced hours, after injury and the role of work in recovery and overall health and wellbeing. It also provides information on identifying patients at risk of not returning to work and how the insurer and employer may be able to assist.
The pathway also links to additional resources for working with patients with a work injury and resources you can share with your patients about recovering at work.
This pathway was developed in partnership with icare NSW – the NSW government’s insurance agency, including the coverage of workers’ compensation insurance.
