The long-awaited Diagnostic Guideline for Autism is now available. It was developed and published by Autism CRC with the support of the National Disability insurance Agency.
The health community has been requesting a national, consistent guideline for autism assessment and diagnosis for many years and this Guideline comes in response to that need.
The Guideline aims to create greater consistency in diagnostic practices across Australia to ensure individuals on the autism spectrum and their families receive the best clinical care available.
The publication also emphasises the importance of listening to individuals and their families about the impact of behaviours on family life.
The Guideline’s recommendations have been approved by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
