Did you know that skin cancer accounts for over 80% of all new cases of cancer diagnosed in Australia each year?
More than 11,500 Australians are diagnosed with a melanoma each year, and an estimated 434,000 people are treated for one or more non-melanoma skin cancers. Cancers become more difficult to treat as they advance, particularly when they metastasise from their point of origin to other parts of the body. Often, cancers only become symptomatic after they have metastasised.
Early detection of cancer or precancerous conditions through screening populations who are asymptomatic is one of the best public health measures for reducing cancer disease burden.
Skin cancer is nearly always preventable. Chat with your patients on the ways to reduce their skin cancer risk! Awareness and information is key to help Australians save their skin and their lives.
