The Reform of General Practice Incentives was announced in the 2023-24 Budget. An Expert Advisory Panel has been established to oversee the review and make recommendations on short, medium and long term actions.
The project responds to the Strengthening Medicare report which recommended the reform of primary care funding, including:
- that general practice be supported in the management of complex chronic disease through blended funding models,
- integrating incentive payments with fee-for-service, and
- funding quality bundles of care for people who need it most.
Incentives will be redesigned to better support quality patient-centered primary care from multidisciplinary teams in accredited general practices and nurse practitioner-led practices, with new blended models linked to better care and outcomes for patient populations registered under MyMedicare.
The Department of Health and Aged Care is keen to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to inform the review and invites stakeholders to engage with the review, complete the survey and/or make a written submission.
The survey can be completed via the department’s consultation hub website.
