The onus is on health services and health professionals to provide information that is clear and accessible and empowers people to be partners in their health care. Taya Prescott, Northern NSW Health Literacy Project Officer, NNSW LHD & NCPHN
Taya has a Masters Degree in Public Health from Griffith University (Qld). She also holds a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism). Taya spent a decade working in corporate communications, television and radio before moving to the health sector. Taya leads the Northern NSW Health Literacy Project.
Francesca Leaton, Heart Failure Liaison, NNSW LHD
Francesca has worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years. She holds a Diploma of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing and a Masters of Emergency Nursing. She has worked in the area of Cardiology for 12 years and in the area of Heart Failure for the last seven years. Currently Francesca works as the Heart Failure Liaison Nurse at Tweed Hospital, working in both the inpatient and outpatient sectors. Her role involves working collaboratively with patients, GPs, Doctors, Specialists and Nurses in the Tweed district to develop a contemporary integrated model of patient centred care which is aimed at delivering improved quality outcomes for people living with chronic heart failure.
Cecily Barrack, Respiratory Services Program Manager NNSW LHD
Cecily is a Physiotherapist and Respiratory Educator who recently worked as the NSW Health Asthma & Respiratory Manager where she undertook workshops for Aboriginal Health Workers across NSW. Currently Cecily works as the Respiratory Services Program Manager for Northern NSW LHD.
Melanie Franz, Northern NSW Nurse Educator: Practice Nurse & Residential Aged Care Facility, NNSW LHD & NCPHN
Melanie has extensive experience in a variety of clinical areas, with post graduate education in education, critical care and project management. She has also spent a decade working in corporate healthcare in the area of education development, and is known for her ability to collaborate and understand customer needs. Melanie has a passion for patient centered, evidence-based care. Melanie leads the Northern NSW Nurse Educator project which has a particular focus on educating and empowering nurses, and supporting self-directed learning.
