With flu season around the corner, it is important for all practices, pharmacies and other immunisation providers to remember to record all vaccinations that patients receive in the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
AIR can hold all childhood and adult vaccinations and therefore the flu vaccination, as well as other vaccinations, should be recorded in AIR for each patient to ensure that the patient has an accurate immunisation history. An accurate immunisation history in AIR allows for other providers to know all relevant information to provide the right vaccinations to patients in the future. It also allows patients to access their immunisation history, which may be needed for employment or enrolment in education services, through their Medicare online account.
The quickest way to submit information about a vaccination is through practice clinical software or directly through AIR.
If you do not have access to AIR you can request access through HPOS. If you need to request access to AIR or register as an immunisation provider, visit https://bit.ly/2qh6DBQ for more information.
A guide to registering with AIR, requesting access and recording an encounter is available here.
