Cancer Institute NSW is delivering a new campaign titled ‘Every vape is a hit to your health,‘ to young people aged 14-24 in NSW.
E-cigarettes are harmful to health and their use among young people is increasing significantly.
Vaping in youth is a known issue on the North Coast, with the North Coast Youth Vaping Taskforce (of which Healthy North Coast is a member) having done significant work in combatting the problem.
The majority of vapes contain nicotine – a highly addictive substance – and may contain harmful chemicals and toxins such as formaldehyde and heavy metals.
The campaign hopes to:
- Increase the proportion of people who believe vaping is not safe
- Increase the proportion of current vapers who intend to quit or make attempts to quit.
For more information, NSW Health offers resources about vaping for parents and carers, teachers and schools, health professionals and young people. Quitline (13 7848) is also a fantastic resource for those looking to quit.
