Diabetes Australia has developed new patient resources for people recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
The resources are part of Diabetes Australia’s If I Had Known campaign. The campaign shares the experiences and advice of people who have been living with type 2 diabetes for a number of years, to assist people recently diagnosed with the condition.
The handy tips include recommendations on healthy eating, exercise, and the importance of reaching out for support.
Diabetes Australia has also developed:
- advice on avoiding diabetes-related complications
- a fact sheet about getting the most out of health care appointments
- an annual cycle of care wallet card.
The ‘If I Had Known’ campaign is built on research that identified major barriers to optimum diabetes management in people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
These included a lack of time, lack of understanding of the seriousness of the condition, lack of appropriate health care support, and lack of knowledge.
