Aboriginal-specific Education and Cultural Safety
Healthy North Coast recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people often experience poorer health outcomes than non-Aboriginal Australians. These inequities are unacceptable. Improving health outcomes requires strong partnerships across sectors and the leadership of Aboriginal organisations and communities.
We are currently redesigning our Cultural Safety Training program to ensure it better supports healthcare professionals to provide culturally safe, respectful and inclusive care.
The updated program will help clinicians strengthen relationships with Aboriginal patients and communities, and deepen understanding of the cultural context of health and wellbeing.Â
The program will focus on:
- Awareness of local Aboriginal history and context
- Culturally respectful communication
- Delivering culturally safe healthcare
- Strengthening relationships with Aboriginal communities
- Supporting improved health outcomes
As primary healthcare professionals, you play an important role in creating culturally safe experiences that build trust and improve care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
