Members of a community walking group are stepping out in Gladstone and feeling the health benefits of their hour-long weekly walk.
Group organiser Maree Alipanahi, a local physiotherapist, is looking for more people of any fitness level to join in.
The walkers meet at Gladstone Park every Friday morning at 7am and head towards Smithtown on the other side of the Macleay River. Some make it over the Major Oakes Bridge, while others don’t get quite that far. The walk of around 3.5km finishes back at Gladstone Park at 8am.
“Everyone walks at their own pace and I supervise those who are less expert or need to walk slower,” Maree said. “We have a warm-up session before the walk and a cool down afterwards, plus I give a few exercise tips.”
Anyone who’d like to participate is welcome. Many of the group enjoy a coffee and chat at the end of the walk.
Walkers meet at Gladstone Park at 7am on Fridays. For more information call Maree on 0497 185 012 or visit the group’s Facebook page here.
