The Coffs Harbour Drug and Alcohol Service is establishing a new outpatient withdrawal/ home detoxification service. The target group will be alcohol dependent people who are predicted to experience a mild withdrawal syndrome.
Belinda, the Community Withdrawal Nurse, will be working from Monday to Wednesday based at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus. She has the flexibility of offering home visits on a case-by-case basis.
The service will involve assessment for suitability for outpatient withdrawal management, co-ordination of care, regular assessment of withdrawal symptoms, medication management, and relapse prevention strategies. This will be a collaborative service working with the client’s GP as the prescriber and treating doctor.
A telephone referral via 1300 662 263 is the preferred option.
In the event the line is busy, written referrals are accepted via fax on 6656 7937.
Criteria for suitability for community withdrawal service:
If a person does not meet the above criteria, the service is happy to discuss and facilitate referral to other more suitable options including in-patient detox, rehab, and/or drug and alcohol counselling.
