Health professionals are invited to a Healthy North Coast Clinical Society meeting around the topic of osteoporosis, its importance in our community, its prevalence and medical and non-medical management options.
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare estimates that a million Australians have osteoporosis, yet it remains underdiagnosed. Thirty percent of women and ten percent of men over the age of seventy-five suffer from this potentially life-changing disease putting them at increased risk of fractures. Around fifty percent of elderly with a hip fracture will not return to their previous level of independence.
Health professionals involved in the care of people at risk of osteoporosis and fractures, including GPs, practice and RACH nurses, AMS workers, physiotherapists, exercise physiologists, dieticians, and falls prevention officers would benefit from this update.
