Improve recording of influenza immunisation for patients with COPD, diabetes and 65+

This quality improvement activity supports practices improve their recording of patient influenza immunisation, directly related to Quality Improvement Measure # 4, 5 & 6 in the practice incentives program (PIPQI):

  • QIM 4: Proportion of regular clients aged 65 years and over with an influenza immunisation status recorded in their GP record within the previous 15 months 
  • QIM 5: Proportion of regular clients with diabetes with an influenza immunisation status recorded in their GP record within the previous 15 months 
  • QIM 6: Proportion of regular clients with COPD with an influenza immunisation status recorded in their GP record within the previous 15 months 

Goal

Increase recording of influenza immunisation patients with COPD, diabetes and 65+.

Measure of success

Percentage of patients with COPD, diabetes and 65+ with influenza immunisation recorded in the last 15 months

Actions

  • Measure baseline recording with PenCAT recipe for patients:
  • Review and analyse current practice processes in recording and maintaining data quality with the team.
    • How is clinical data currently being collected?
    • What are the common barriers to capturing and managing clinical data?
    • How could we overcome these barriers and improve the process?
  • Outline the process for clinical data collection
  • Place software recording instructions in an accessible place for any person who enters data and ensure all staff are trained on the process.
