Update on eNMRC systems for prescribers of aged care residents

DoHDA has recently announced an extension to the deadline for aged care homes to transition to using a compliant eNMRC to 31 March 2027.

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has announced that the implementation timeframe for electronic prescribing conformant Electronic National Residential Medication Chart (eNRMC) systems has been extended to 31 March 2027.

A supporting fact sheet is also available, and outlines the revised transition timeframe and key actions for residential aged care providers as they work with software vendors, prescribers, and pharmacies to prepare for the transition.

This extends the previous deadline of 31 December 2026 by a further 3 months.

Residential aged care homes, prescribers and pharmacists using Transitional eNRMC systems may continue to operate under the Transitional Arrangement until 31 March 2027.

From 1 April 2027, all new medication orders should be created and managed through conformant electronic prescribing eNRMC systems.

The extension recognises feedback from software vendors and aged care providers that additional time is needed to safely complete system migration, testing, training, and the re-creation of residents’ medication charts in conformant systems.
