Tweed Urgent Care Service: Bringing compassionate care to aged care residents

TUCS is already delivering on its mission: high-quality, timely care to people in the comfort of their own homes.

Established only months ago, the Tweed Urgent Care Service (TUCS) offered by NNSWLHD is already delivering on its mission: high-quality, timely care to people in the comfort of their own homes.

This includes a special focus on aged care residents through strong partnerships with Residential Aged Care teams, GPs and Extended Care Paramedics.

Resident story

A resident required suture removal and a wound check, and thanks to a detailed referral from the RACH clinician – including medical history, medications, and advance care planning – the TUCS clinician arrived at the aged care home well-prepared.

The wound showed signs of infection, with gaping at the incision and purulent discharge. The TUCS clinician acted immediately – expressing the discharge, taking a swab for culture, and carefully cleaning and dressing the wound.

A full assessment ruled out further complications, and a follow-up appointment was arranged to continue care and review results.

The result? The resident was able to stay comfortably at his residential home, avoiding avoiding unnecessary hospital transfer and receiving the care he needed on-site.

‘I felt safe in their hands,’ he said.

This story reflects what TUCS is all about – delivering responsive, professional care that puts residents first, right where they live.

TUCS is a clinician-to-clinician referral service and operate 7 days a week 8am to 8pm. They are happy to receive referral via email or direct over the phone.
