New online GP+paediatrician partnership enhances primary care for kids

The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network have a launched the SUSTAIN Virtual Paediatrician Support Service for GPs in NSW.

The Sydney Children’s Hospital Network have a launched the SUSTAIN Virtual Paediatrician Support Service for GPs in NSW, until June 30 2026.

It’s a free virtual paediatric clinical support service which comprises of 30-minute virtual co-consultations with Dr Louisa Adams, email/phone support during business hours, and weekly case discussions (Lunch ā€˜n’ Learn sessions, Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-2pm, MS Teams).

This is free service open to any GPs in NSW who may be interested.

The SUSTAIN Virtual Paediatrician Support Service aims to:


  • enhance GP knowledge, skills and confidence in the management of common paediatric conditions
  • reduce GP referrals to hospital emergency departments and outpatient clinics for children and young people
  • provide GPs with an opportunity to contribute to and influence an emerging evidence-based model of care
  • enhance the quality of care for children by fostering GP-paediatrician collaboration, leading to improved child health outcomes
  • improve family trust in and preference for GP care
  • reduce the burden on families (of having to seek, wait for, travel to and pay for specialist paediatric care outside of general practice).
