GP in Focus: Musculoskeletal

Healthy North Coast invites GPs and GP registrars to join us for an engaging evening focused on musculoskeletal (MSK) assessment and management in primary care. Musculoskeletal presentations are among the most common reasons patients seek care in general practice, yet determining the source of pain or functional loss can be challenging. Through case discussions and practical demonstrations, this session will explore examination techniques, interpretation of clinical findings, and evidence-based approaches to non-operative management. Enjoy dinner, networking with colleagues, and valuable insights from an experienced GP with specialist expertise in sports and musculoskeletal medicine.

Dr Andriy Boyko
Dr Andriy Boyko is an accredited registrar with the Australasian College of Sports and Exercise Medicine (ACSEP) and a Conjoint Lecturer with UNSW School of Clinical Medicine. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal and sport-related conditions and has provided medical care for elite athletes across the NRL, A-League and other professional sporting organisations. As a former GP, Dr Boyko combines his expertise in general practice, sports medicine and medical education to support improved musculoskeletal care in primary practice.

• Demonstrate musculoskeletal examination techniques for common musculoskeletal presentations encountered in general practice.

• Interpret musculoskeletal examination findings to support clinical assessment and management decisions.
• Apply evidence-based non-operative treatment strategies for common musculoskeletal injuries.
• Understand the principles of exercise prescription and identify suitable referral pathway for individual patients
