Updates to NNSWLHD patient vaccination records

A review of vaccination records in Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) identified an error that occurred during some patients’ visits to NNSWLHD emergency departments between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2024.

Some patients treated for a wound or injury received the Boostrix® vaccine which contained protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough), when they were prescribed a different vaccine protecting against only diphtheria and tetanus.

Patients’ Australian Immunisation Records have been updated

The Australian Immunisation Records of affected patients have now been updated.

Affected patients do not need to take any action.

There is no risk of harm to patients. The Boostrix® vaccine is safe and recommended for tetanus-prone injuries.
