Mid North Coast GP Public Health Initiative
Provides shared clinical and public health leadership across Aboriginal Medical Services to strengthen care quality, coordination and access to services
Community need
Many patients of Aboriginal Medical Services face challenges in accessing specialist services, coordinating care across providers and supporting a sustainable clinical workforce. This initiative addresses the need for stronger regional clinical leadership, improved integration between services and better access to specialist care for Aboriginal communities across the Mid North Coast.
Our approach
The initiative delivers a shared Clinical and Public Health GP role that works across participating Aboriginal Medical Services. The role provides regional leadership while supporting local priorities, strengthening clinical governance, improving referral pathways, supporting quality improvement activities and promoting collaboration between Aboriginal Medical Services, hospitals and other health services.
Consultation
The initiative was developed through the Healthy North Coast Aboriginal Health Partnership and participating Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. Aboriginal Medical Service CEOs, clinical leaders and partner organisations contributed to the design of the role to ensure it responds to local priorities, complements existing services and supports community-controlled models of care.
