Community need

Some people experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges may not fully engage with traditional talk-based therapies or may benefit from additional therapeutic options such as the cultural therapy component of this pilot. There is a need for more diverse and accessible approaches that support mental health, wellbeing and recovery.

Our approach

The pilot delivers creative arts therapy and music therapy through accredited practitioners working alongside ACCHO SEWB programs. The program provides individual and group-based therapies that help people express emotions, build resilience and improve wellbeing through creative processes. Model 2 also includes a cultural therapy component where Aboriginal artists and cultural leaders will deliver programs and support.

Consultation

The Aboriginal service model has been developed in partnership with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. Creative therapists work alongside local wellbeing teams to ensure activities align with community preferences, existing models of care and cultural priorities.
