TRISP grant program – Wellways
The Grant Program for Targeted Initiatives for Suicide Prevention is a non-clinical, community-led support service specifically for men aged 25+ experiencing suicidal distress across the North Coast.
Community need
Responding to suicidality in men across the North Coast Region
Our approach
The program delivers outreach to Northern and Mid North Coast NSW to provide communtiy embedded interventions including outreach, safety planning and warm referrals for men experiencing suicidality.
The program ensures integration of culturally safe engagement with First Nations men through partnerships with Aboriginal Medical Services and the local Aboriginal Land Councils.
Community awareness activities delivered via local partnerships.
The Provider will deliver a non-clinical, community-led suicide prevention support specifically for men aged 25 and over who are experiencing suicidal distress across the North Coast Region.
The program will be delivered through approaches that are:
- Grounded in lived experience – shaped by people who understand
- Culturally responsive and inclusive – recognising the diverse identities and experiences that impact wellbeing
- Community-based and accessible – meeting men where they are, both physically and emotionally
Peer-led and evidence-informed – drawing on successful models like our Men’s Wellbeing Matters (MWM) program, and through established partnerships with trusted community networks to offer practical support and strengthen connection.
Consultation
Design of the program was in response to signifcant community consultation to develop the TRISP action plan.
Objectives
The objectives of this grant are to:
1. Provide early engagement, direct support, and referral pathways for men at risk of suicide, particularly in high-priority regions
2. Strengthen community resilience through embedded engagement in made-orientated and community- based settings
3. Establish sustainable, culturally safe partnerships that reduce stigma and increase access to support
4. Deliver evidence-based interventions that reduce suicide risk and improve wellbeing outcomes.
