The introductory slides gave an overview of the Women’s Cancer Screening Collaborative.
Jane Walsh, Director of Breast Screen Mid-North and North Coast presented Cancer Institute NSW research on reasons for under-screening, strategies for addressing under screening were presented by Sara Gloede and Taya Prescott.
Presented by Dr Nick Repin, BreastScreen Designated Radiologist, The ‘Breast Screening and Assessment’ slides overview the difference between BreastScreen and private diagnostic services.
Relevant key messages from the workshop:
- Women with family history may need more regular follow up than the general population
- The Familial Risk Assessment for Breast and Ovarian Cancer (FRA-BOC) is a good tool for assessing risk – the linkl to this tool is on HealthPathways
- Women can return to screening 5 years after diagnoses – depending on the preference of the care team
- Being a Healthy Woman’ resources support education of women with very low health literacy or intellectual disability – see the link to the resources on page 36 of the WCSC handbook
- BreastScreen has lots of useful education materials and the link to these is on page 27 of your handbook
