To support our local health care providers and communities, the Healthy North Coast GP Telehealth service has been launched as part of the Commonwealth’s flood-relief support program.
Residents in flood-affected areas who are not able to get an appointment with their regular GP can now book a telehealth appointment any time of the day, seven days a week.
Healthy North Coast GP Telehealth can provide:
- Information, advice, diagnosis and treatment
- Prescriptions sent to your local pharmacy
- Medical certificates
- Specialist referrals
- Care summaries provided to patients, regular GP and My Health Record
Healthy North Coast GP Telehealth services are only offered where it is safe and clinically appropriate. In medical emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).
Local GPs have also been issued an exemption to be able to offer all residents affected by floods a telehealth or telephone appointment. Read more.

Telehealth utilises communication technology to provide health care from a distance.
Healthy North Coast GP Telehealth uses phone or video to provide a doctor consultation.
A doctor can provide you with advice, diagnosis and treatment for a range of conditions. They can also prescribe certain medications and provide specialist referrals, where appropriate.
The service is not suitable for all circumstances or conditions. It cannot be used for medical emergencies or injuries.

In some cases, we may ask you to send in a image of your condition to aid in your consultation. The phone operator will advise you at the time of your call if you need to do this, and provide the instructions on how to do so. Your consultation can also be conducted via video.

Healthy North Coast is funding the GP Telehealth service through its North Coast PHN program as part of a comprehensive local flood response. The PHN Program is an Australian Government initiative.
Temporary Exemption for all GPs Offering Telehealth to Patients in Flood-affected Areas
To help support the immediate needs of flood-affected communities, the Australian Government has issued a temporary exemption from the legislative requirement that GPs can only perform a telehealth or telephone service where they have an established clinical relationship with the patient. Mid North Coast and Northern NSW general practices and Aboriginal medical services are able to offer any residents living within the affected postcodes a telehealth or telephone appointment. This is a short-term arrangement.
