Core of Life (COL) is a health promotion program designed to educate and empower adolescent males and females with information related to pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and early parenting.
In the Northern NSW region, COL is a joint initiative of North Coast Primary Health Network (NCPHN), Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSW LHD) and the Youth and Family Education Resources Program (YFER). Project coordination is provided by NCPHN.
Core of Life highlights the physical, emotional, and social consequences of pregnancy and parenthood, focuses on aspects of a healthy (and unhealthy) pregnancy, and provides localised information on heath and community services available.
In the Northern NSW region the program is delivered by employees from education, community, youth and health services such as Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers, Teachers and Youth Workers who have trained as COL facilitators.
