In our previous update, we shared news about the regionwide increase in influenza immunisations to at-risk groups (up by 11% to over 65s and people with diabetes and up 10% to people with COPD). This week, Central Pottsville Medical Centre has shared their PDSAs for increasing influenza immunisations to vulnerable groups.
Using systematic PenCS data searches and a team approach, Lyndall and the team at Central Pottsville achieved the following impressive results:
- People with diabetes up by 11.5%
- People over 65 up by 18% (would have been higher if the clinical information system included people in nursing homes in the count – these will be entered next year)
- People with COPD up by 22%
For more information on what motivated the team to be patient-centred while reducing the potential strain on hospitals during COVID-19, see the Primary Care Impact QI activity on increasing the rate of immunisation to high risk groups.
Great effort, Lyndall and the team at Central Pottsville Medical Centre! Thanks for sharing your approach and learning with colleagues.
