Eating disorders are serious mental illnesses with significant impacts on physical and mental health and development.
In some cases, inpatient admission is required to manage risk and provide medical and psychological stabilisation.
The Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) has established a local inpatient pathway for paediatric patients. A comprehensive eating disorder treatment program, modelled on service provision at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, will be implemented by the paediatric units in Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour in collaboration with Youth Mental Health Services.
Details of the pathway, including indicators for admission and red flags for assessment, are available via HealthPathways.
