In 2021, 1 in 4 people in our region were considered to be in the most disadvantaged group in Australia. 1 in 10 people were among the most advantaged.1 

Disadvantage indicators include:

  • high ageing
  • remote and unemployed populations
  • low income
  • no transport
  • no internet
  • disability, and
  • living in public housing.

The Local Government Areas (LGAs) with the largest population of people in the most disadvantaged group were:

  • Kyogle (96.3%)
  • Richmond Valley (95.8%)
  • Kempsey (95.4%)
  • Nambucca (95.4%)
  • Clarence Valley (94.1%)

The remaining LGAs only had between 0.5 — 0.8% of population in the most disadvantaged group.
