Participants in the HNC SpeakUp survey 2021 told us the reasons they stopped or delayed getting health care:
- 64.6% said it takes too long to get an appointment
- 63.5% said they prefer to manage themselves
- 45.5% said they couldn’t afford to pay
- 38.8% said they didn’t think anything would help
- 36.9% said they asked but didn’t get help
- 32.3% said it is too far to travel
- 2% said I prefer to manage myself
- 9% said it takes too long to get an appointment
- 4% said I am unable to find a LGBTIQ+ friendly service to access
- 9% said I couldn’t afford to pay for the service
- 30% of survey participants with a mental health condition said they couldn’t afford to pay
- 6% of survey participants with a mental health condition said it takes too long to get an appointment
- 7% of survey participants with a mental health condition said it costs too much to get there
- 9% it takes too long to get an appointment
- 0% I prefer to manage myself
- 1% I asked but didn’t get help
- 26.2% I couldn’t afford to pay for the service
