Participants in the HNC SpeakUp survey 2021 told us the reasons they stopped or delayed getting health care:
  • 64.6% said it takes too long to get an appointment
  • 63.5% said they prefer to manage themselves
  • 45.5% said they couldn’t afford to pay
  • 38.8% said they didn’t think anything would help
  • 36.9% said they asked but didn’t get help
  • 32.3% said it is too far to travel
  • 2% said I prefer to manage myself
  • 9% said it takes too long to get an appointment
  • 4% said I am unable to find a LGBTIQ+ friendly service to access
  • 9% said I couldn’t afford to pay for the service
  • 30% of survey participants with a mental health condition said they couldn’t afford to pay
  • 6% of survey participants with a mental health condition said it takes too long to get an appointment
  • 7% of survey participants with a mental health condition said it costs too much to get there
  • 9% it takes too long to get an appointment
  • 0% I prefer to manage myself
  • 1% I asked but didn’t get help
  • 26.2% I couldn’t afford to pay for the service
