Unplanned pregnancies occur among women of all ages and backgrounds. It is estimated that up to 50% of Australian women experience an unplanned pregnancy, with higher rates in rural areas, and around one in four women will have an abortion. Barriers such as limited service availability, legal complexity, and financial costs- particularly in regional and rural settings- can affect women’s ability to access timely, informed, and supported reproductive healthcare.
Join us for an informative webinar designed to build confidence and capability in unplanned pregnancy and abortion care in primary care settings. Using a case-based approach, we will explore the clinical assessment and prescribing of MS 2 Step, examine relevant legal frameworks, and discuss local referral pathways for non-directive pregnancy counselling, medical and surgical termination of pregnancy, and management of complications. The session will also highlight useful resources to support best-practice care and consider practical aspects of implementing abortion care in a GP practice.
