Over the past 8 years, there has been a 43% rise in reported psychological distress among young Australians aged 15-19. So how do we build trust and establish communication better in primary care with the youth of the Macleay Valley?
Enjoy a 2-course meal, network with fellow clinicians and learn about youth mental health. This society meeting will focus on mental health and young people and the opportunities to empower and engage the youth of the Macleay Valley.
Brent Skimmings from NPS Medicine Wise will discuss how we can engage with young people to increase their autonomy and support informed decision making. We’ll investigate the role of medicine with young people’s mental ill-health and how to do a psychological assessment and safety planning in primary care. Through a case study, we’ll unpack the more hidden signs and symptoms of young people experiencing mental ill-health. Hayley Hoskins will share a personal perspective and a local clinician will provide information about local services for suicide prevention in the Macleay Valley.
