For GPs and GP registrars
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains an under-recognised condition in Australia, due to the asymptomatic nature of the disease and low awareness among Australians regarding risk factors. Further compounding this problem is the issue of limited access and utilisation of healthcare services among those most at risk of CKD. This includes those who are geographically isolated and socially disadvantaged, as well as Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders.
In this evening webinar, we will present an interactive case study to:
- outline the importance of early detection for those at risk of CKD (including the high prevalence and poor outcomes of CKD in Australian Indigenous peoples)
- describe the elements of the assessment for CKD (kidney health check)
- define the treatment options to delay progression of kidney disease
- discuss local HealthPathways and referral options.
Facilitated by:
- Noell Burgess, Aboriginal Health Coordinator, Healthy North Coast
- Kylie Wyndham, CKD Nurse Consultant, Northern NSW Local Health District
Speakers:
- Dr Belinda Stallard, Nephrologist, John Flynn Hospital
- Dr Aye San, Nephrologist, Flow Health and Cardiac Diagnostics & John Flynn Hospital
This webinar is developed and endorsed by the Primary Care Education Advisory Committee for Kidney Health Australia.
